LuluFest 2023, “...where the traditions meet the progressives, and all the leaders are women”
Lulufest 2023 will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 8001 Mesa Drive, 6:30-9:30 PM. This year’s 6th Austin Festival marks our second year at this wonderful venue, and features some wonderful players:
At 6:30 we have the Margaret Slovak Trio, featuring Margaret’s lovely compositions and guitar work. She will be accompanied by bassist Paul Unger (bassist with the Dallas Symphony), and Mike Gordon on drums
At 7:30 we have the Emily Gimble Trio. Emily is Texas music royalty, the daughter of beloved bassist and guitarist Dick Gimble, and granddaughter of the legendary fiddler Johnny Gimble. Just as talented and infectious a performer, Emily is a fine jazz singer and pianist. After two years with famed swing band Asleep at the Wheel, Emily has launched a successful solo career; she will be accompanied by her husband, bassist Michael Archer, and Jordan Cook on drums.
At 8:30 we present the Estrella All-Star Band, featuring (all the way from Cuenca, Ecuador) soprano sax extraordinaire Su Terry, vocalist (and LuluFest Assistant Director), Suzi Stern, pianist Peggy Stern (Artistic Director), flutist/tenor saxist Alex Coke, with Ryan Hagler on bass, and Mike Gordon on drums.
